Project Overview

We recently collaborated with Zapp Electrical to complete a lighting retrofit at Macquarie Park. The client aimed to boost the building’s energy efficiency as a strategy to attract new tenants, while also minimising environmental impact by reducing landfill waste. Our customised Air Return LED solution was the perfect match for these goals, allowing us to enhance efficiency while preserving the existing infrastructure.

The Solution

The project involved a strategic upgrade where we replaced outdated twin 14W and 28W T5 fluorescent lights with 90 customised LED panels. Rather than opting for a one-to-one replacement, we developed a unique solution that integrates seamlessly with the existing air return frames. To achieve this, we locally manufactured metal frames that seamlessly accommodate the new LED panels. This approach significantly reduced installation time, minimised dust, and disruptions, and contributed to sustainability by avoiding the disposal of the old air return components.

Ricky Forewaker of Zapp Electrical praised the ease of installation, making the retrofit project a smooth transition from fluorescents to LEDs. The environmental impact of this project is substantial, with a 76.33% reduction in energy use, projected annual energy savings of 13,641 kWh, and a carbon reduction equivalent to removing nearly four cars from the road.
